I make to engage, unite, excite and distract…I like to ask myself, “Is it important for the work to exist? Is it effective? How can I make something that has already been said- when it needs to be heard again- new and fresh? ”

Experience

Christina Morrison is a Massachusetts native who currently resides in Chicago. She graduated in 2018 with her BFA in Contemporary Dance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, under merit scholarship. During her time at Boston Conservatory, she performed works by Robert Battle, Alison Cook Beatty, Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris and Dwight Rhoden. She has also danced in several world premieres of choreography by MADBOOTS Dance, Francesca Harper, Christopher Kinsey, Omar Carrum and Claudia LaVista. 

She has premiered work at the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), at Stage 773 for Trifecta Dance Collective’s “A New Light”, at Links Hall for Ground Rhythm's “Breaking Grounds” Series (in collaboration with Maxine Patronik), at The Edge Theater for “EMERGENCE” held by Alluvion Dance, and at the Greenhouse Theater for Simatikos’ “2nd Annual Choreo-Kick Off.” Her professional choreographic endeavors kicked off in the summer of 2018 when she worked as Head Choreographer for the ELCA Youth Gathering in Houston’s NRG Stadium: a festival that attracts an audience of over 30,000.

Christina is currently resetting her piece “Uptight” on Simantikos Dance in February for their 2020 season.

In Memory Of: November 2018

In early October I learned that an old dance friend of mine passed away at the age of 21. We had lost touch in the last couple of years and I was unaware she was even sick. About one week after, this song popped up on my Spotify. I thought of her immediately. Rachel always had such a graceful and rooted presence. So this is for her...but also for appreciating the things we can’t hold on to...for memories that warp and twist in our heads. I love my friends and I love the fact that I wake up everyday with breath in my lungs and a body to dance. Pause. Be thankful.

Something Stupid: December 2018

how do you take something back, once it is in a space?

what if what was said was not true but rather, word vomit from built up perceptions in your head?

is it possible to make something without a basis at all.. just aimless feelings vibrating off of chord progressions?

would you believe me if i said, i felt nothing and everything dancing this?

and also, worming down a subway platform never seemed so right.
