Essential vs. Excess

What is essential and what is excess?

We don’t stop to ask ourselves that a lot.

We don’t need to….other distractions take control.

In this time of social distancing, we have consistently been told by government agencies and grocery stores and social media…

“Only take what you need.”

“Be conscious of the people around you.”

“Non-essentials are not important!”

My days now only consist of the essentials.

-Sleeping

-Eating

-Working for income

-Small degrees of social interaction

- Fresh air

-Exercise

-(and sometimes) Creative outputs of some sort

It’s different to ask yourself that question now, rather than a month ago…

(What is essential and what is excess)

My response?

I’m looking inward and re-evaluating how I function…in what areas I can reformat how I function.

I’ve been actively minimizing the way I live.

As a result, I’ve realized I don’t actually need that much.

Ironically, I’ve lost control over some of the things I consider

most essential in my life.

Performance of artistic expression

freedom in my work environment

control over my finances

So I’m taking steps to work towards those things once this passes over

by limiting the excess once and for all and recognizing its unimportance.

Today I challenge you to ask yourself, and see what comes of it.

With gratitude,

Christina
