HEALTH COACH 101
A lot of you might be wondering what it is exactly, that I am promoting myself as…
What does the phrase “health coach” imply?
To start. Here are a few things I am not.
I am not a Registered Dietician
I do not have the medical knowledge or professional backing to claim that I can help with more advanced cases. For example, if my client was diabetic and needed me to create a specific, controlled diet, then I would refer them out to another specialist.
I am not a Therapist
I do not have a degree in psychology or again any higher educational training in this area. If my clients seem to be dealing with issues out of my range of expertise, for instance if my client showed signs of being bulimic, I would refer them out to a counselor equippped to handle this.
I am not a Personal Trainer or Physical Therapist.
I have a great understanding of my own body and general body mechanics from going to school for Dance Performance. However. I am not the person to contact, if you need someone to create workout plans for you. I am well versed in making suggestions for creative exercise and implementing recovery strategies. I cannot (and will not pretend to) diagnose that foot injury for you though. :)
Which brings us back to the original question, what am I?
I am a guide, committed to creating long-lasting and sustainable change:
I am someone who can assess your scope of health in this present moment and create a plan for you to start working in more positive directions.
I am a vessel for you to pour your own insecurities, doubts, confusions, frustrations, joys, and inquiries into.
I am a coach who will root for your success always. I will rejoice in your victories and support you through the lowest points on your journey.
I am an open page for you to write the book of your new vision of wellness on. I will not “judge” your beginning or your current state. My job is to look at the facts and find solutions. Not berate you for falling off the path a little. (Especially if the path actually turned out to be the wrong route for you specifically.)
I am a source of positivity and accountability, but I am also a real human. Nutrition is messy. Life is messy. I embrace it all and I strive to help others do the same.
